I’ve had many blogs in the past ten years. Some were good, some were bad, some were read by many, some I kept private for my own journaling and research. What makes a successful blog post? In this post, I will share with you key strategies to make your blog a success.
1. It’s Not a Competition
Remember the Sunscreen Song from Luhrmann’s interpretation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet? In it, there is a line that says, “Sometimes you’re ahead, sometimes you’re behind, the race is long but in the end it’s only with yourself.” If you’re choosing to write a blog it’s important that you are honest with your values as these are a key reflection of your blog’s brand. But there is nothing wrong with asking for a hand in things you feel you may need improving. What made my Social Media journey work is that, I enjoy networking and collaborating. Some of my best friend’s are those in my field that lift me up, instead of competing with me, and we make a great team.
2. Play Nice
If you’re worried about what other people think, your blog will fail. Being nice doesn’t only mean being nice with other people, but being nice to yourself and to give yourself a chance. I have had many blogging journeys that have failed. Try it out, keep it simple. Failure only brings you closer to your brand. Also don’t fight with trolls. It will only make you feel bad, and it isn’t really productive. Learn the difference between constructive criticism and bullying. But mostly, don’t get down to their level.
3. Be Honest
Have something to say. Say it. Just don’t lie. If you say you are going to do something, do it. That includes deadlines. Not all posts will be perfect, but it’s better to have an honest post that is truthful to your brand and self, then a post that screams fake fake fake. Your readers may like them at the beginning, but you will lose leverage fast.
